![]() ![]() She and Bendis have crafted this tale with great care, and while every twist might not be the best, the overall quality of the title continues to be a good reason to come back. Her attention to detail is spectacular, especially the church, which looks so realistic that it could be mistaken for a photograph. The reliving of Peter's final moments are every bit as emotional as the original, while she continues to help develop Miles through his bevy of solemn, determined, and at times snarky facial expressions. The art quality has had its ups and downs since she started on the title, but here she outdoes herself. Sara Pichelli's pencils look incredible this issue. It is like he is stealing Peter's heart-wrenching origin story instead of earning one for himself. Miles is so detached from the situation that it feels more like a shallow way to tie him to the original Spider-Man instead of a bona fide reason for him to risk his life to save people. ![]() ![]() Adi Granov Axel Alonso Brian Michael Bendis Chris Samnee Cory Petit David Marquez Gabriel Hernandez Walta Jonathan Moisan Jorge Molina Justin Ponsor Kaare Andrews Mark Paniccia Pepe Larraz Rain Beredo Sana Amanat Sara Pichelli Vc Cory Petit. Seeing something terrible can transform somebody, but the way it happens here goes down without any heart or personal feelings. Browse the Marvel comic series Ultimate Comics Spider-Man (2011 - 2013). Witnessing horrible acts and then hearing about Uncle Ben's sagely advice is completely different from experiencing either one first hand. That makes for an incredibly weak incentive for Miles to decide to be Spider-Man. ![]() Miles watches Peter die and then hears about what made him become Spider-Man in the first place from Gwen Stacy. ![]() ![]() I discovered him last year and although I’d resolved to read only one book each by the authors I chose (in order to increase the number and genres of books I read), I ended up breaking that resolve for Levithan. It’s more like his work is like my security blanket. I don’t just mean that in the sense that I connect to it or relate to it in a way we do with so many writers. When I read him, there have been times when I’ve felt it’s something I wrote, or if it was something written exclusively for me. David Levithan as an author is not just someone I admire and look up to but also someone who has some kind of influence on me. Whenever I talk about David Levithan, this is the first book people point me to (although I don’t know why I still pushed it a little far down my list). Not in recent times has a book moved me so much or, for the lack of a less cliched phrase, filled my lonely, dark, black hole of a heart with so much joy. But it occurred to me that not talking about this book on my blog would be highly unfair. ![]() If you saw my little note on Goodreads, then you know that I was not sure if I was going to review Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist. ![]() “All I have are the songs crashing together in my head. ![]() ![]() ![]() Overall, I highly, HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone that's just looking for a good laugh. I mean hell one quote that stuck with me was when Ignatius' Mom tells him (and I'm paraphrasing here )" from all those books you've read, you couldn't figure out how to be a decent human being". I can't tell you how many times I thought I was so smart because I had so much knowledge in a particular hobby.but have terrible social skills. The main character Ignatius is the living embodiment of "so smart he's stupid", but I can't help but see that maybe all of us have a little Ignatius in us. This is the only book where after reading a certain joke, it was a gut-busting laugh and I had to put the book down for a second to get all the laughter out. And most times when I read a book and there's humor involved, I usually have a decent chuckle and continue reading. ![]() I had my doubts since humor is so subjective, some people enjoy slapstick more than satire, sarcasm when not done right can come off mean-spirited, etc. ![]() And MY GOD this is one of the funniest books I ever written in my short 26 years on this spinning rock. A Confederacy of Dunces: John Kennedy Tooles Novel of What it Means to Miss New Orleans A Confederacy of Dunces was chosen as the first group read of On the Southern Literary Trail in March, 2012.
